Lesson Information
I enjoy working with students of all levels - beginners through college. From establishing the strong foundation that is critical to playing music well to developing the tone and technique that is expected of a trained classical music performer, it’s all something I enjoy working on with my students.
Recommended Lesson Duration
I teach year-round. Successful students approach their flute study as they would any life skill and work continuously toward their personal best. In fact, lessons taken during summer break often provide the best opportunity for skill strengthening or tackling new challenges. Recognizing that there are additional priorities during the school year, though, I typically teach 30 minute lessons for younger students. Sixty minute lessons are encouraged for high school students, as their music is typically more difficult.
Topics
Lessons typical cover a wide range of topics, depending on each student’s goals and areas for improvement. Possibilities include:
● Tone
● Technique
● Intonation
● Musicality
I always choose pieces for students to develop their skills. Of course, I’m always happy to help with anything the student wants to work on.
Additional Opportunities
I encourage students to audition for District honor band, All State band and area youth ensembles. Many of my current and former students have won auditions to participate in these prestigious groups, as well as holding high chairs in their high school bands. Several of my students have gone on to become music majors in college and now have successful careers as musicians.
